João coordinated Dewan
Solidaritas Mahasiswa Timor Timur (East Timor Student Solidarity
Council), and was on the Board of La’o
Hamutuk (East Timor Institute for
Reconstruction and
Development
Monitoring
and Analysis), until he joined the La’o
Hamutuk staff in August 2002. He studied English at
the University of East Timor. His undergraduate thesis is about East
Timor’s education system under transition. He also coordinates
reporters for Suara Timor Lorosa’e (STL), a local newspaper. He speaks
Tetum, Indonesian and English. At La’o Hamutuk, João works on Natural
Resources (Oil and Gas) and militarization. He is also in the
team of
the public meetings of LH. He was involved in the establishment
of the
MKOTT and is the spokes-person
for the Movement.
Helio Dias da Silva
Helio is a student from the faculty of social and political sciences
of National University of Timor-Leste. He is actively involved in
social and justice issues. He is one of the student leaders
represented in National Alliance for International
Tribunal and was a member of APCET V organizing committee
Conference held in Dili. For the
Timor Sea issue, he is one of the founding
members of MKOTT, the Movement Against the Occupation of the
Timor Sea. Recently he just organized one-day seminar on Timor
Sea at his University, where about 1500 participants attended the event.
