A problem that has been reported from time to time by people with Windows operating systems is "disappearing" CD or DVD drives or such drives suddenly acquiring driver problems.  For what it is worth, the procedure below has been reported as fixing such a problem for some folk.  It involves editing the registry so before you do that make sure to back up your registry using ERUNT or create a Restore Point in Windows.

1. Click on START button, then click RUN
2. Type 'REGEDIT' (without quotes) and press Enter
3. When REGEDIT starts, navigate to the following folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

4. Left click on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

5.  In the right-hand pane, right click on the entry named "Lowerfilters", select Delete and hit Yes

6.  In the right-hand pane, right click on the entry named "Upperfilters", select Delete and hit Yes

7. Close REGEDIT, shutdown and restart your PC
