Greg Baker describes some Windows 3.1 dialogue box keyboard shortcuts.
Experiment with these keyboard shortcuts to see the effects they produce and try out other combinations of keystrokes to see the effect that they produce.
Check Windows 3.1 documentation and help file for other shortcuts.
Many Windows 3.1 menu selections will call up a dialogue box.
Accelerators
Dialogue boxes have accelerators marked by underlining. To access these accelerators simultaneously enter Alt and the underlined letter.
Thus to increase spacing before a paragraph in Word for Windows 6.0 is simply a matter of entering Alt+O, P, Alt+B then entering the amount of space required and pressing Enter to finish.
Tabbing around
Once in a dialogue box using the Tab key will usually cycle in turn through the various functions available to choose from. The option chosen at any time by this cycling will be highlighted. Pressing Enter will choose that option.
Use the space bar to toggle check boxes and the arrow keys to select radio buttons.
Thus in Word for Windows 6.0 use Alt+I, P to get the dialog box for inserting a picture then Alt+P for picture preview. Pressing the spacebar will toggle picture preview on and off; so too will repeating Alt+P.
Similarly Alt+I, N will select the footnote and endnote dialogue box. In this dialog box Alt+O will select the note options dialog box. In this box Alt+C will select continous footnotes. To change this selection you can use the arrow keys to move up and down the options indicated by the radio buttons.
