In the near future we will be starting to change the Centre - the modifications are quite extensive, but the end result should make the rooms much more suitable for our needs. The modifications will allow reasonably large SIG meetings, and better security and access when the training room finally becomes operational, plus many other benefits.
John Hodge has kindly agreed to be volunteer Project Manager and he has worked long and hard to produce a great set of drawings and specifications which have been accepted and agreed by our Landlord - the Department of Urban Services.
You can download some of the Drawings from HERE (268 KB PDF file), and the Specifications from HERE (135 KB PDF file).
We are hoping to minimise costs by using volunteers from within the PCUG as far as possible. Obviously we will be using qualified tradesmen wherever that is a requirement, and I'm happy to report that Allan Baden who is a member of the group and a qualified builder has agreed to supervise many aspects of the work - specially the demolition efforts.
But there are many requirements for both skilled and unskilled volunteers and we are hoping that members will come forward in the same spirit that resulted in such a great outcome during the move from Belconnen.
John has also produced a detailed Work Plan which you can download from HERE (90 KB PDF file). This is very much subject to change, but you will note that we would really like members to help in the following categories:
- Handymen (or handypersons?)
- Computer shifting
- Furniture shifting
- Electrical work (certified commercial)
- Demolition labour
- Ethernet cabling work
- Cleaning
- Painting
- Carpet Layers
If you feel that you could help - please let Ann Byrne know as soon as possible. We are HOPING that the work will mostly run over the October long weekend. From Friday 30th September through to Tuesday 4th October but this is very much dependant on prompt quotation returns and shop front construction. But some preparation work prior to the start date is also detailed in the Work Plan.
So please volunteer now
and feel that WARM GLOW!
