Meeting 12 September 1995

A short meeting today to allow a picnic at Telopea Park.
There were a number of apologies, Geoff Mierish was one, he is in
WVH, 8th floor, room14, on oxygen and would be happy to see any
visitors. Wolf Lieske provided a financial statement and there
was some discussion as to whether or not the money should be
banked. In the end, because it was only a small amount, it was
decided that there was no point in running an account, and the
matter would be left to wolf.

There were a number of questions, one member with a
Colorado back up unit has had trouble in its operation, and in
his quest for a solution, found that there is no "help" desk in
Australia. He wondered if there was any interest in forming a
back-up users group to resolve some of the problems. He was also
advised to look at the newsgroups to see if there was an
appropriate group.

Also, a reliable uninstaller was sought. This led to a
discussion on uninstalling, and it would seem that the best way
to approach the problem was to rename the files and let them sit
there until you are satisfied that they are not really
necessary, then delete them, or save them to a disk.

Wolf Lieske is looking for a program for cataloguing
Audio CDROMs. It was suggested that there were a number of
cataloguing programs on the BBS, and one of these may be
suitable. An alternative was to use a spread sheet, and make
your own database.

There was some discussion on WIN 95. Darrel Burkey
reported that he has one vital program that doesn't work in the
95 environment, and as a result, he has both Windows 3.1, and 95
installed on his computer. Expensive in diskspace, but at least
all programs now work. WIN95 fax works real well.

On the subject of faxes, Ken Meadows uses QuickLink,
(shudder) and reported that he tried to send a one page fax
but it arrived as 16 pages of junk. He hasn't been able to solve
the problem, nor could anyone offer any suggestions. It was
suggested that a page containing both graphics and text, should
be defined as graphics, and pure text as from a Write document
should be defined as text.

Anne Warrener, who gave us a talk last time on her
application of Corel 3 to her designing business gave out some
freebie biros, her business is "Appropriate Designs" and is run
by "The Designing Woman". A first class piece of advertising,
catchy, simple, and effective.

Now I wonder what happened at Telopea Park

 Cheers Owen
