3. DUN Printout - TedM
To see in text form your Dial up Networking set up do the following.
Go to My Computer locate the folder titled 'Dial up Networking', minimise
the screen window, click on your set up file (mine is called Tip299) and
drag it to the display screen. That is click and drag the DUN set up file to
the screen. This converts it to a text file with an icon on the screen. Then
print it out. The result is about 11/2 pages of detail including your
script. You may have to add other details by hand as this print out only
contains the essentials. i.e. Entry, Phone Device, Server,TCP/IP and
Scripting
4. Win ME Problems fixed - GrahamM
A. Arrangement of icons so the order is retained each boot up. A program
called 12Ghosts SaveLayout fixed it. See www.12Ghosts.com.
B. The problem of the program list from Start/Programs extending off the
screen was solved by re-sizing using Control Panel/Display
Properties/Settings/Advanced/General/Font size, select Other, then placing a
ruler against the screen and then dragging the ruler on the screen back to
align with it. All three columns of programs are on the screen.
C. The problem of the blue screen of death which appeared every time any
action following clicking on or selecting Start was solved by DAC who was
visiting my place on a totally unrelated matter. He noted that the Vxd
fault advised by the Blue Screen of Death related, of all things, to the
sound card. When we disabled the system sounds the problem disappeared.
Went looking for Win Me drivers for my relatively new Xitel Storm Platinum
sound card to find that I was already using the latest. Xitel support
produced the gloomy advice that the chipset manufacturers for that card
(Aureal) had gone belly up before Xitel had a chance to develop Win Me
drivers. The recommended action was to buy a new sound card although it was
possible that a company called Vortex, who had also used the chipset might
have developed drivers. Went www.vortexofsound.com and downloaded their
drivers and the problem has gone away. The Storm Platinum card is still on
the market (must be old stocks) so beware.
5. Training, Google, IE - AllanM
6. FavSearch , Direct CD R/W - JohnS
A. Nice little utility...
Has your Internet Explorer Favourites list swelled to fearsome proportions?
Is finding a particular site that you added to your Favourites last
month like looking for a needle in a haystack? Can't remember which folder
you saved a Favourite in? Let FavSearch put an end to your troubles. Just
type in any word, phrase, or partial word or phrase and click the "Start"
button. FavSearch scans your Favourites list and all folders in it
(descriptions and URLs) for any shortcuts containing the text you entered,
and returns a list of results. You can then double click any item in the
list of results to have Internet Explorer navigate to its corresponding URL.
No more scrolling up and down that menu for hours!
Installing FavSearch adds a new button to your Internet Explorer toolbar
as well as a new menu item under the "Tools" menu for convenient access to
the program whenever you are browsing the web.
Available free from http://hhsoft.csoft.net/fsearch.shtml
B. Do you take large programs to other peoples houses on CDs produced with a
burner? I do - but my skinflint nature objects to cutting them onto write
once CD as the S/W changes so frequently. Instead I use R/W CDs just like
another (removable hard drive) using Adaptec Direct CD software. But most
"customers" are not able to read the R/W CDs.... Until I discovered the free
utility "DirectCDreader" that comes with the other Adaptec software. The
set-up file is only 350 Kb and can be installed very quickly from a floppy
disk. This program needs no "operator" inputs and enables most systems to
read the R/W CD like any other drive. Very old - non (multi-media?) CDROM
drives cannot use the disks though.
7. Invalid long filename - KrynV
8. Print MYOB from computer without MYOB - JeanetteJ
9. Anyone I could talk to about PDF - need to buy S/W - JeanetteJ
10. How to delete Power Management, and the notice about an E-Mail which was
incorrect and annoying me. Buzzi Buddy - Thanks to all helpers to eliminate
BuzziBuddy - Elizabeth
11. New Windows version coming RSN - EmilJ
Microsoft announced early this month that a new version of Windows
"for personal computer users" will be released later in the year. It
will be called Windows XP.
A version of Office will also be released to be called Office XP.
    More details in
http://www.cnn.com/2001/TECH/ptech/02/05/microsoft.reut/index.html
It seems that the promised convergence of Windows products (Windows 98
and ME on the one hand and Windows NT and 2000 on the other) is put on
the back burner
12. Data-Audio CD - TerryB
