Meeting 18 February 1997

Here we go again.Under the able leadership of Alf McMicken 40 members
attended this meeting and once again the shortage of chairs was
raised. Aoparently the Committee now has this requirement under review
and our already overworked and ever helpful committee member (no names
no pack drills) has undertaken the task of costing.
The meeting then turned to viruses and anti-virus programs and it was
apparent then nearly half of those present had been exposed at some
time or other to a computer virus. Derrick as usual gave us an amusing
summing up of the subject.

We were then informed how impressed a visiting team had been with our
organisation's set-up, magazine and training facilities.
John Saxon hen gave us a run-down on Trace routing and a program
called Catch-UP which can tell you the most recent available updates
for your installed software.

A member then raised the problems he had with installing Microsofts
new "Picture It" program and how they told him the problem was that
his refresh rate was too fast. H was left with an unreadable screen.
Discussion then turned to the problems posed by Monitors, video
cards, refresh rates and software and it was apaprent that almost
every setup needed a different solution.

Many missed that popluar brand of biscuit with their coffee, but it is
off the shelves and the substitute was alright. The meeting closed
with an invitation for all present to join in the picnic in the park
by the side of the lake.

Seven new members were welcomed and it refreshing to see youth amongst
them.

Thanks to Wolf and those who participated the picnic was as successful
as the meeting and enjoyed by all.
