It was a preety cold day, but 14 of us still managed to turn up with a few others sending in apologies. Gloria started the meeting, noting that Michael Phillips had advised the PCUG centre already had a white board. It was thought a back-up unit might be appropiate and Gloria would hunt around on prices and other specs. Emil Joseph gave a run down on Pow Wow. This is a program that allows 5 people to chat at the same time, as well files could be sent between the conference participants. It is hoped that the program will be expanded to include up to 100 participants. The main problem is to get people online at the same time, Emil stated he had tried it a few times and with some success but was looking for others to join him in the experiments. One of the interesting features of the program, is that if all participants have Netscape, one can be a leader and take the others on a guided tour through various web sites, and he is keen to try this out. The source of the software has been listed in TIP general, but as I had carefully deleted my Tip.general, I can't repost it here. Interested persons are invited to contact Emil at ejoseph@pcug.org.au and hopefully, the full potential of the program can be evaluated. Some discussion followed, Ifone or Iphone, which allows you to talk over the internet and CUCV which has video. Iphone has been described as the "killer" application of the Internet, and has taken off incredibly since its release in March of this year. PKUNZIP One member described his problem with Pkunzip. Basically, when unzipping in Windows, he could see the unzipping being done but could not see it on his hard disk. An explanation of what happens was given, and the solution is simply to click on the C drive, then click on the original directory. It was pointed out the the same thing happens when using Xtree, and the remedy was the same. Further discussion followed re Winzip, and this program is recommended as the way to go. Winzip can be found on the PCUG BBS. WIN95 Another member gave a rundown on his Beta version of Win95, basically he was very happy with it and was only back on WIN 3.11 because 95 had crashed and he had to reformat his disk etc to get out of the "safe mode" operation that 95 goes into after it crashes and fragments your disk. He is waiting for the next final version of 95 because the Communications capabilities of WIN 95 were truly magic and together with its other capabilities, he believed that 95 was the way, in fact the only way to go. He warned that current AntiVirus programs do not work with WIN 95. Another person reported that there is a PCUG members home page that dumps 19Megs of data onto your disk, however, it was not known which page this was, so it was just a casual warning re collecting files offered on a home page. And that was that, another interesting Tuesday C&C, Gloria reminded those that wanted to attend next Tuesdays(25 Jul) that the should let her know at grobbins@pcug.org.au or at Gloria Robbins 3:620/243 You may not hear from me again, as I am about to get a high speed serial card, I know it has worked for others, but by Murphys Law, it won't for me.
