Minutes of the Meeting held 21 August 2001 Alistair was "elected" chair and I was volunteered to be note coordinator. One person (TonyB) was there for the first time and briefly spoke about the Basic language PIC and asked if anyone there had experience with it. Following is a list of the elements discussed/queried: 1. Photoshop Elements - Jeff spoke about Arcsoft Photostudio at $19.95 from Harvey Norman (displayed next to Photoshop 6 for more than $2000) and that it is available from www.dymocks.com.au. This is the facility I use for printing images from scanned photographs or digital cameras with results I consider to be excellent. For these simple tasks I see no need for anything more expensive. My Photostudio came amongst various goodies when I purchased my Canon Scanner. The manual of about 56 pages can be downloaded from www.arcsoft.com/support/manuals and is worth looking at to see the what is available for less than $20. In particular look at the tutorial . I also have Photoshop 5.5 but as yet I have not needed any of the wonderful things it will do. 2. Sunderland table - JohnS Item 2. Just a small success story. Needed a woodworking design for a special type of Gateleg table (only 20 cm wide when folded). Three minutes on Google and established that they are called "Sunderland" tables, and a bookshop (here in Australia amazingly) had a 1989 English woodworker magazine which included a design. A quick Email and secure server order, and for a total of $5 even Australia post came to the party and the magazine arrived 2 days later {:-)) 2. What is a JPEG file - Margaret From JohnS:. Margaret was concerned about opening a JPEG email attachment as when she did a "connect" box opened. Consensus was that Internet Explorer was set as the default viewer for JPEG files and that it was trying to contact the default home page after opening. Several solutions were offered. A. Don't worry about opening .eml or .jpg attachments (so far) they are not know to harbour virii. B. Change MSIE default home page to Blank by going to Tools|Internet Options and Click "Blank" button in General options Home Page Address. Or better still.. C. Use a good image viewing program like the freeware IrfanView (Check Google for download sites). From Margaret on Thursday 23 Aug: Thank you guys for all your help but am still a bit confused. The general consensus of opinion seems to be don't worry about it containing a virus. Just to click and open the file and save it to wherever if need be to look at it. I do have IrfanView loaded on my computer and need experience on how to use it I guess. Will be a trial and error thing down the track. Margaret D 4. Transact - been there done that - KenM 5. Outlook Express - mailing lists - AlanV Alan Vidler (not an Outhouse Express user) asked a question on behalf of someone having trouble trying to send to an address list of about 500. General opinion was: 1. List probably too big. Try dividing into several smaller lists. 2. Some ISP s/w 'bounce' messages are not at all clear whether they apply to whole address list or just one invalid address. Would need to know precise message (which had not been recorded..). Also whether some addressees got the item... 6. Sircam virus examples - MikeD 7. Dragon v.5 voice recognition - TedM 8. IE5.5, getting rid of Big Pond embellishments - Peter From Emil: For info on how to unbrand IE5.x, check: http://www.questforcertification.com/cts/faq/ie5_un_branding.html [ Google knows everything ;-) ] - Emil From JohnS: Item 8. I sent Peter a small registry change (Probably safer than an .ins file which I don't fully understand).
