Meeting 26 September 2000

Chaired by JimH who kindly volunteered... :)

1. Graham McC. Windows Me. Be careful when loading Windows Me as
it can take over the software you have happily used for communicating
with a scanner or camera and impose its own software via a wizard.
The Windows Me Help gives a guide about how to specify what you want
Windows to use but I have not yet put it to the test. Significantly
Kodak has out a little utility which wrests control of the Kodak
software back from Windows. Microsoft technical support advises that
a functioning configuration should not be upset simply by loading
Windows Me. Kodak's action and some (but not all that much) whinging
on newsgroups does indicate that this may not necessarily be so!

There are some incompatibilities between Windows Me and some hardware
and software. A list which shows a very big list of programs which
will or will not work with Windows Me can be found at
http://www.ntcompatible.com/0a.shtml. For the purposes of this list
Windows 2000, Windows NT and Windows Me are treated as having the same
compatibility. This may in fact be not quite accurate in relation to
Windows Me but is a good guide to likely problems.

2. Word Fonts: Trevor asked if there was a document template with
Word97 that would do the same thing as the ones supplied with Winword6
and 7 (produce a file listing all the fonts on the system together
with a sample). Advice was to search for FontMonger which would do it
or something similar.

3. Links in e-mails: Kryn

4. Future of PCUG and a lens for SIO. JohnS talked briefly covering
most of the points that were covered by AllanM at last week's
Northside meeting.

5. MS Win98 startup menu disabling - BobS

6. Scanner connections - RodP

7. ecg -n Rick

8. How to delete messages when required, not forever; BubbleJet 4200
Canon printer's light moves when printing - Elizabeth

9. Wireless; WAP; Bluetooth; ChessK

10. Win98 Maintenance: ChessK

11. Computer clock: RodS. Tardis2000 was suggested here as being a
good tool to maintain the accuracy of the computer's clock while on
line. The time server should be set up to use pcug.org.au.

Any additions, please e-mail me.

Trevor
