Ted Macarthur took this mornings meeting, another interesting session. Three new faces were Len Richardson, and Marge and Ray. Normally parents give their siblings an out of date computer to play with, but in Marge and Ray's case, their son gave them an old computer, all a bit of mystery at this stage. Wolf had the C&C Zip drive, I've got it at the moment, and if you want to borrow it, call me at 5pm, 254 2009, or e-mail me at rcook@pcug.org.au. Some points to note. 1. The setup.exe has been modified so you must run winguest.exe for W3.1x or guest95.exe for W95 machines. 2. It is recommended that the instructions and read.me file are read. 3. Make sure your config.sys allows another drive, ie, last drive=z. 4. The PCUG also has two Zip drives for loan. Emil introduce a program called ICQ, it allows you to make yourself available to a circle of people when on the net. Privacy wise it is pretty good and you can do most of the IRC and Powwow things with it, also you can use voice over it. MS Net meeting (free) has been used with exceptional quality. Have a look at http://www.mirabilis.com/download.html to download a version to suit you. The copy I got is a Beta and time expired version, and I haven't got it going yet, but all those using W95 have. Ken Meadows advised that http://www.windows95.com ( I just tried this and it didn't work, so KEN, if you are there what is the correct URL) provides virtually everything you need in the way of drivers, FAQs and latest updates for W95. He got his HP scanner going in W95 without having to go back to the manufacturer. Jim Fogg wished a correction to the last minutes be made. Doubles Space claimed to double your disk space, but what it does is to archive stuff as it went on, and unarchived it when taking it off. Programs so stored could not be directly run off the disk. Our market man, Gordon Urquhart, gave us run down on the latest prices he has found at the markets, EPIC and Albert Hall. Fairly staggering they all were, so if you are thinking of buying something, and read all the mags and done your phoning, ask Gordon, he will have a good feel for the right price. A vote of thanks was given to Darrell Burkey and the team that has been putting together Sixteen Bits. In response DB said he had submitted 3 recent editions to the World Home Grown Magazines competition. He was hoping for an award, also he has submitted the online edition in another category, as well as the PCUG Membership flyer in yet another category. Time will tell. At 1120, Colin Pitson got up and said "I have to go now, I will be away for seven months". We barely had time to wave goodbye and wish him well before he was out the door. I will check in seven months time at 1120 to see if he reappears:-) Some discussion on refilling cartridges, "I have no problem refilling my HP cartridges" boasted John Saxon, where upon he was immediately dobbed in to give a demo of this difficult task at the next meeting. Make it a good one John. Also some discussion about the Y2000 problem. For most PCs it would seem to be a non event, given that your PC will be hopelessly out of date by 2000. However one member drew attention to a program called WILLIT, free and apparently found at http://www.sbhs.com to check your computer in the future right now. Next meeting will be 10 Jun 1997, everyone is welcome, so see you then. Owen
