22 Attended and Rod B kindly accepted chairing and control of the meeting
and fielded the first issue

1. TIP DNS 203.10.76.34 value did not work and using Netscape mail would
not work. It was suggested that the first step was to check Control Panel
set to ensure that correct modem settings. The solution was to re-load
Dialup-networking and re-set all. Ensuring that all the ticks of the Win
programs you wanted remained in their boxes, not only those you were
re-setting. He found a solution to a dreaded Blue Screen stack space problem
In the unofficial Aptiva Message Board at
 http://novogate.com/cgi-bin/aptiva/Ultimate.cgi?=intro&BypassCookie=tr
This message Board also has very useful information on Windows 95/98, Error
Messages and Beginners questions for all PC users.
 2. Graham M. Raised the issue of the Windows Scandisk program pointing out
that the scandisk that occurs on an improper shutdown is not a full scandisk
and you need to go to Windows Programs/Accessories/Tools for a full scan if
you have disk errors.
3. Kryn had a problem with a file * .aab which he had received and was
unable to find an association. It was suggest he look at Wayne Corbin's site
at which contains a comprehensive list of file extensions for PC's Mac's and
Unix.
http://www.pcug.org.au/~wcorbin/
4. It was generally agreed that Fastfind is better disabled as it effects
both speed and space/
The problems of which version ofActiveX were raised and it was agreed that
the latest version from Windows update should be used.
5. Trevor F provided those present with a card detailing the extensive
pictures of people palces and events in Australia. A National Library
initiative at http://www.pictureaustralia.org a site well worth visiting.
6. There was considerable discussion about a number of freeware programs and
John S recommended an Australian site http://freeware.pns.com.au/index.html
7. Peter H circulated an advertisement for free oversea telephone calls
worldwide . The URL is http://www.ISIS3.com
This led to considerable discussion on duplex sound cards and the impedence
of microphones and the need to use your windows program to check whether
your microphone was adequate.
8. Mike D had loaded IE 5.5 from a PC User CD ROM and there was general
agreement that this was the best means of upgrading IE5. His problem was
that he could no longer get his printer to print double sided. It was
suggested that he go to printer settings through Control panel.
9. Jim J asked advice on whether he could upgrade to Win98SE with an update
over the top of Win98 with an update disc. It was agreed that it was
seamless, but to ensure that other programs were not running during the
update.
10. There was considerable discussion about the need for the current
attendance list at C& C meetings.
The Southside view was that it was unnecessarily complex and that it should
be put to the Northside that a membership list of C&C members with their
email address and areas of expertise would be a better alternative.
11. Mike D was seeking a method of Font control in IE to enable smaller
print out.
12. Anne. Raised a problem over loading additional fonts in Word97, and was
pointed to Windows/Systems/fonts and to ensure that they were either .TTF or
.FON
Some of the issues raised and discussed may have been missed. Rod kept good
control of the meeting but there was still a problem with some talking
whilst another person had the call.
