The meeting was attended by 30 people, a good turn up for what was to be the last meeting at the Fyshwick address. There was a letter from Gloria, giving news and observations from the Solomons, she will be home next week, and Neville Anderson has been told he will live after his operation, bit scarey that, and is likely to be moved out of intensive care shortly. The treasurer advised that there was $300 in kitty, and he was off to Thailand at the end of the month, have a nice trip Wolf, though the $300 wont get you very far. It is obvious that the move to the new premises was underway, a number of things had been packed up, the library had been all but removed. Volunteers are required to help with moving on the 14th of the month, that's a saturday. Help is needed both ends, Fyshwick and Belconnen. The next stuffing of the Sixteen Bits will be held at Belconnen, on the 23rd September, and it is expected that a number of stuffers will drop out because of the location, a plea has been made for stuffers, particularly if you live in the Belconnen area. Woolongong has been lost as an IRC server, they now only take edu.au domains, so for the next virtual C&C, Armidale will be used, see http://www.pcug.org.au/~ejoseph/vcc for the details. Emil also advised that he would approach TIP committee to have our own IRC set up, he now being in a position to be ircmaster. Phillip Bell had been thinking again, and started off a very wide ranging discussion. Essentially he wanted to petition Optus to string up cable in Canberra so cable modems could be used. This raised other discussions on the Telstras Gungahlin "failed" project, Optical cable, ACT politicians, rabble rousing greenies, easements in the ACT, and it just went on and on. Good stuff, enjoyed it all. Ken Meadows has acquired an Amiga 500 and wishes to transfer data from it to his PC. The advice was to get a Null Modem cable and interconnect the two machine, then use a communication program to transfer the data. Gordon Urquhart gave yet another exciting account of his adventures to the auctions. It's all pretty scarey stuff, and if you want advice on what to do and not to do at auctions, talk to Gordon. I think he is taking the big step and get himself access to the internet, so you should be able to catch up with him easily, soon. HP apparently suggest that the special colour paper sold with Lexmark is suitable for HP. The Stationery Warehouse and harvey Norman sell it for about $20 per hundred sheets. And that was it, the meeting was officially closed, and the yakking kept on going. So watch this space for details on the next meeting which is scheduled 17 September, and tentatively set to be held the new premises, Northpoint Plaza which is opposite Dick Smith, which is just up from Brashes which is....
