Minutes of the Meeting held 5 June 2001 1. Start Up List - Graham McC Graham writes: Clearing the Registry startup list. If I run MSCONFIG at look at the startup list I see duplications (with the same path). In some cases both are ticked and in other neither. Is there some way of deleting the unwanted duplications? There was some misdirected discussion about start up but the problem is a duplication of entries in this dissection of the registry startup list. No resolution. 2. Pdfactory - Graham McC Graham writes: Fine Print has added a program for converting files to pdf format called Pdfactory. I have found it reliable but others at the meeting stated that it could cause corruptions. Found at www.fineprint.com. Owen writes: This is a great little program. I use it for printing everything off the web now, bank receipts, manuals and the like. It has a "Created with FinePrint pdfFactory (beta version)" notice attached to each PDF, but that's OK for my use. 3. Corrupt files on cdrom - Graham McC Graham writes: Corrupt files on a CD ROM. I have files a number of images on a RW CD ROM. I can retrieve all the images except those in a particular directory. Whenever I select one of the files in that directory the system more or less locks up and the ROM drive thrashes around unable to make any progress. Direct CD will invoke its scan disk and possibly fix errors if there is a disc error but, because the rest of the disc is readable I cannot get it to have a go at fixing this problem. Best suggestion was to find someone else with an RW drive and see if it can be read on that hardware. 4. "Send to" command - Kryn 5. bmp [file] becomes a blank wallpaper - RodB 6. COMPAQ IJ600 printer - RodB 7. pdf [file] on web page could not be opened - RodB 8. Audio CD wont play - Anne Response from Anne Anne writes: Anne mentioned that her CD audio CDs still wouldn't play and again sought advice. She was advised to recheck the sound volume levels, the mute button and the mixer - this was no assistance. She was also advised to find a wav. file and see if it would play using the Sound Blaster Live card - the PC played all the S.B. demo wav. files well. The suggestion that Anne used earphones plugged in the CD tray - resulted in both the "Media Player" and the "CD player" playing the first snatch of the tracks on the CD and then cutting out, but no sound at all came out of the speakers. The final suggestion that the Sound Blaster manual be consulted to see how the problem could be overcome has yet to be tried. 9a. Voice activated computers - Nigel 9b. Eudora address lists - Nigel 10. Inoculate | Vet - Joan 11. Cumulative download recorder - PaulH 12. [printer] ink - MikeD and JeffC 13.
