Another well attended meeting despite the cold. Fist of all
apologies from Valerie, her treatment isn't as debilitating as
before, but she has to keep out of contact with others to keep
infection possibility to zero.

        Also an apology from Kieth Owen, and a couple of letters
from Gloria Robbins were passed around, she is surviving the 28
degree heat of Fiji, although getting things done there is
fraught with the problems of another culture and distance.

        Phil Rogers and Wolf Lieske are getting modems to waste
their time on the Bulliten board and later the internet. They
both sought advice as to the best way to go. Naturally there was
plenty of advice, but one question, "How many devices can you
hang off the end of a telephone line?" was subject of much
discussion. It would appear that three devices would be OK, and
anything after that would be on a suck it and see basis.

        There were quiet a lot of Internet questions. The
installation of the PCUG kit, use of Eudora, registration of
Winsock, Trumpet Newsreader, the virtues of Free Agent and
strangely enough, where do you find libraries. Is the ACT Library
service now online? One thought it was, so if anyone reading this
knows for sure, please reply and how do we point to it? A list of
library URLs would be provided for the next meeting.

        Some discussion on how to intergrate Fax and Phone on the
one line. There doesn't appear to be a simple answer to the
problem, but one that can be solved with lots of money which
raised the question, is it worth it?
Sometime in the future Telecom may offer distinctive ringing for
Fax, Data or voice, but a gizmo box would probably be required
for this.
Some answering machines will identify incoming calls as Fax, and
drop them off to the fax machine, if voice, they will stay on the
answering machine.
There is a $300-$400 gizmo box on the market that identifies
calls as voice, fax, or data, but noone had one of these and it
was still a bit of a mystery.
The best solution appears to be the four Fs
        Fone First For Fax............

        As the meeting progressed, the hotwater system bought by
the C&C group was being installed. So hopefully, the thing will
be useable after today.

        Next meeting is planned for the 20th June.
