Hmmm. Either the figure is tab-damaged or more likely you are trying
to produce ascii art using variable-pitch fonts.

Better. :-)

It is always best to use fixed-pitch fonts for news and email functions.
Not only will the ascii art come out looking right but it's important
when viewing/composing anything in tabular form. HTH.

At the last couple of meetings I have raised the subject of a 'script'
font which is similar to neat copper-plate handwriting. Please advise
if by any chance I am the "absent member".

I've just been through the HP660C manual and there are a number
of "paper feed" type problems but none that suggest the feeder
rollers would need cleaning.

For machines still in warranty HP give a free number to call,
maybe John should try that ?

Paper feed problems are

Paper in IN tray not pressed against the paper feeder
The paper path is blocked
Too much paper in the IN tray
Paper stack is uneven
Paper is curled, wrinkled or damaged
Different paper sizes, types or weights

For the person/persons wanting to know how to change the format
of the date in Agent..... 32 bit (ie W95)
Go To

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Regional Settings | Date

......in the 16 bit (ie W3.1x)
Go To

Yes Ken, you are correct. But the figure was not tab-damaged ... I
did it all by myself. However, this exercise reminded me of a trap of
which I was aware, but not aware enough at the time, ie. I did not
observe that the Agent signature composition box was using Courier
(fixed-pitch) font, and my Agent screen display was in a variable
-pitch sans serif font .... hence the "Chad with a bad attitude".

For an exercise to check out my deductions (and my sanity), I posted
an e-mail to myself and read it on the Eudora Light .... the modified
signature, which was OK on Agent, had a bad attitude on Eudora. QED.
So, I can sleep better now.

>Regards,
>Ken

As a result of the above exercise, I have decided that:
      (a) my artistic skills on a keyboard are no better than those
with a brush or pen, and
      (b) because the signature will be read with a variety of readers
using different types of fonts, I should delete the Chad, and be
reminded that it was a report for Coffee and Chat, not Coffee and Chad

Thanks again,

Neville.

Yes Jim,
I have got Gordon's disks and am investigating them for what may be of
interest including the font that you are looking for!

Will let you know if I strike gold.

Sorry Emil, I must have got it wrong. I know you have good intentions
when giving help because you have given me some help in the past, for
which I am grateful.

So I should have realised that you had done the right thing by Keith,
because TIP provides a lot of interest, but not ATO. (Big grin)

But seeing that you mentioned it - I still have my tax return to do

Hi Jim,

As I have been in "signatures with and without attitude" mode in the
last week, your own signature (above) caught my eye, and it reminded
me of the tagline used when I formerly went gliding:

	"Glider pilots stay up longer"

But I won't use it because who ever heard of a Chad in an Astir?

Yeah, I've basically reached the same conclusions. Ascii art can be fun
and preformatted information is useful, but only to those who are using
fixed-pitch fonts ("fixedsys," "terminal," "courier," etc. for Windows
users). So I usually avoid it but for special circumstances. If the
following makes sense, you are using fixed-pitch fonts. Otherwise,
you're missing out on all the fun:

                                     ,..
                                  .;' `;.

Not a good example, Ken. It also lines up OK in the optional variable
pitch font I use sometimes. It is just that it is about half the width
of the fixed pitch version, but the shape is there.

Pardon me if I butt in (Hi, folks!) but if anyone wants to look at amusing ASCII
tricks try the newsgroup alt.fan.warlord (don't ask me from whence the silly
name emanates.)

Basically it is a repost group where they pinch peoples pretentious sig lines
and make fun of them. Also see news.answers for the actual "rules" about
what should go into news messages and sig lines.
