OPTICAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP PUBLIC SERVICE APPLICATIONS Draft Minutes of Meeting : 1 February 1995 The meeting attracted around 50 attendees and was chaired by Andrew Freeman (Dept of Immigration & Ethnic Affairs) Apologies Neil Kennedy Kodak Sandra Henderson National Library Zara Struik ANU 1. The meeting commenced with two presentations. a Catherine Rebbeck from Computer Law Services who outlined the opportunities possible with the Commonwealth Toolbox. She explained that it is a toolbox for anyone who uses Public Service related information and reference materials b Ken Mitchell, Marketing Manager of the Australian Bureau of Statistics who provided an overview of the ABS marketing philosophy as well as a demonstration of CD products that they market. 2. Introductions Mr Bill Chisholm provided an outline of the activities of Hermes Precisa Ltd and gave a number of examples of where they are working. Frank Wood of the Dept of Defence Publications outlined the areas where his section had an interest. Tim Jones of Documenta gave a brief description of the activities of his organisation Ian Redpath of Brigalow Publishing stated the interest his organisation has with multimedia Cd publishing. Vince Overs of SCSI introduced himself giving a brief description of his company s interests (Optical storage & networking CD) Alex Gillan of Reark Resources introduced himself and described the areas where his company operated ( including scanning services) Maxine Danaro of Purchasing Australia mentioned that they had a CD catalogue of all common use contracts Roger Hargreaves of XEROX introduced himself mentioning his company s interest in publishing on CD as well as paper. Phil Garvey of Neural Data Systems outlined his companys activities in Canberra & Sydney Declan King from Australian Customs mentioned his agencys interest in CD and the opportunities that still exist. Arthur Langford-Smith of the RMAA gave details of the Storage Media and the Law seminar to be held on Wednesday, 29 March 95. Andrew Freeman detailed the meeting schedule for the remainder of the year. 4. During general discussion Frank Wood asked whether electronic forms were to be considered during the next meeting (the subject of the next meeting is automated forms processing). It was indicated that this will be considered by one of the speakers at the OTSIG April 1995 meeting. Frank was encouraged to provide input from Defence experience during the introductions session/morning tea to those who have a particular interest in this aspect of automated forms processing. 5 Date of next meeting was confirmed as Wednesday April 5 at 10.30 am at the Belconnen Library 6.
