The Sisters of Mercy were the second congregation of religious women to come to Australia and had been invited to come to the struggling colony of Perth by its newly appointed bishop, John Brady. The group, led by Mother Ursula Frayne and consisting of three professed sisters, three novices and one postulant, arrived in 1846. Very quickly, they opened schools and were involved in visitation of the poor and needy. God's mercy to us is the heart of our service to others. Our gift as Sisters of Mercy is to know God's loving kindness and to share it with others.
