Australian Highcountry Huts
Huts in the Kosciusko & Namadgi National Parks
See also the official Kosciusko Huts Association page for an insight into the way the huts and their history are preserved (largely by voluntary effort) for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations and within the wider conservation objectives of the parks authorities.
The most recent, 1993, edition of the Kosciusko Huts Association's List of Huts, Ruins and Sites in the Kosciusko and Namadgi National Parks is confidential to KHA members and accordingly is not available online but a hardcopy is held by the National Library of Australia, Canberra.
The Huts List provides - in 19 closely typed pages - the name, map reference, locality, access, status (hut, site, ruin etc), construction, history and availability of documents on every hut and stream gauging station site known to the KHA Committee at that time. The List is currently being revised by the KHA. Let them know if you can provide any additional information.
A more widely available document is likely to be the book, "Huts of the High Country", written by Klaus Hueneke and published by ANU Press, Canberra in 1982 (ISBN 0 7081 1389 3).
Another easily overlooked source of information on the highcountry huts is the KHA Newsletter which has been published now for over 20 years. It should also be available in the National Library.
