THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR TRIP - LANGLEY FLY IN

The morning started early with plenty of movement in the camp. Weather looked good and the first aircraft started moving out to Langley, 8:00 am local time in groups of five or six, according to anticipated airspeed. Amateur built and vintage built first followed by commercial builts. This is the only city in the world where 130 aircraft, most of them home built, can fly into the heart of the city, land on the banks of its river with the city proper and skyscraper buildings just over the street from the temporary landing field and stage an all day air show.

WA division members can feel justly proud of their efforts in staging such a well organised and professionally run air show thus promoting SAAA and aviation generally.

Mid afternoon and the pilots were being asked to stand by ready for departure to Serpentine.. Frank and Phil had arranged to go looking at D18 projects and return to Serpentine next morning. I flew back to Serpentine solo, the aircraft felt so light after the full load we had carried right across Australia. Sunday was open day to the public at Serpentine and fairly relaxed for us. I had refuelled KVC early ready for departure next morning. Pam and David invited us to have lunch with them and later in the afternoon David took Phil and I for a fly in his Stits Skycoop. It certainly is a responsive aeroplane and handles different to the Jodel range.
