How can you contribute volunteer efforts to the PCUG?

The majority of our services are run by enthusiastic and willing volunteers. (The only employee is the Office Manager).
Our group would not be able to continue in it's present form without our volunteers. Different people get different things out of the experience - work experience, the satisfaction of helping others, contacts in various fields, who knows?

If you would like to volunteer your services in any capacity, no matter how small, just tell us who you are and what sorts of things you'd like to do. Here is just a partial list of some of the areas available to you!

COMMITTEE - Make a difference! If you have management skills, or just enthusiasm or interest, we would love to hear from you. Email either Committee or the Secretary. The AGM will soon again be with us.

CENTRE: PCUG OFFICE, MEMBER FACILITIES, TRAINING (& MEDIA) ROOM

STAFFING THE PCUG CENTRE: We welcome the interest of volunteers to staff the centre at weekends and occasionally during the week. You do not need technical skills, just the ability to perform some office tasks, answer the phone, accept renewal and other payments etc, and knowing your way around the everyday computer environment will help. Training will be provided. To get an idea of what's involved, please visit the Staffers Information area, but you will need your TIP User name and Password to do so.  You may also be able to assist with some of those background jobs in the office.

Contact the Volunteer Coordinator for more information about staffing or assisting in the centre.

LAN SUPPORT: If you have technical skills, or are up the curve on Windows networking and servers, or could help us with small building type maintenance jobs. We would love to hear from you.

TRAINING: running training courses & information sharing sessions, is a pleasure in our refurbished training room.
  • mounted overhead data projector
  • 12 x 1.6Ghz computers ready for Vista
  • a training coordinator (&/or team) assists the effective delivery of training at our centre. Could that be you? You do not need to be a trainer yourself. Promotion of courses involves communication & planning strategies, such as, seeking what is desired from the membership, seeking skills that members have to give, assist with promotion & advertising ........

Please contact training@pcug.org.au to seek further information or give feedback and suggestions.

NOTE: Our training program had been considerably disrupted due to relocation, techical re-establishment, and gaps with the ongoing availability of people to maintain an effective training coordination team.

MEMBER SERVICES - We produce 'Sixteen Bits' an on-line monthly magazine. If you have HTML skills - the editors could always use a helping hand. The editors are always on the lookout for material and articles - if you have had any recent traumatic PC experiences, or better still you would like to write about your latest success please contact The Editor . You might like to review some new software.
The Main Monthly Meeting takes considerable organising as well - if you could help, know an expert (commercial or private) who might like to speak, or would like to give a talk on any PC related subject - the MMM Organiser is waiting to hear from you.

TIP ADMINISTRATION - Heavy duty UNIX skills and a sunny disposition needed here {:-)) Contact the administrators if you might be able to help.

HELP SYSTEMS - Remember our motto is "Users Helping Users". We always need people who can help others with their many and varied PC problems, if you have some experience with a particular program, or hardware item it would be great to add you to our list of members who might be able to help by phone. Please the office.
We have a Help via Email system and you could possibly dip a toe in the water by 'lurking' and then perhaps helping on that mailing list.
Finally we often provide help and advice to members in their own homes - if you have plenty of PC skills and a caring and patient disposition - please contact the Office Manager.
